Jeannie no - Judie Tzuke

Judie Tzuke's fifth album 'Ritmo' was released in 1983. From that album, this single 'Jeannie no' was released. Like other singles by Tzuke, it did not chart. That's not to say that the song is bad: it's a lively track that showcases Judie's clear voice.

I didn't know this song but I bought it on the strength of the artist's name. Turns out I was right... again.

I'm not a loser - Judie Tzuke

I didn't know this song when I bought it. I bought this single for one reason only: it was a picture disc. And a beautiful one, at that. Fortunately I did know Judie Tzuke and the type of music she made.

In 1982 Tzuke joined a new label, Chrysalis Records after having served with Rocket Records for three years. Her first album for Chrysalis was 'Shoot the moon', from which this single was taken. The single did not chart, but the album reached number 19 in the UK albums chart.

Stay with me till dawn - Judie Tzuke

Judie Tzuke was born as Judie Myers on April 3, 1956 in London. She signed to Elton John's Rocket Records in 1977. 'Stay with me till dawn' was the first single credited to her alone, since her official debut 'For you' (1978) was credited to Tzuke and Paxo. The song became Tzuke's most wellknown track and her only hit single in the UK, peaking at number 16.

I discovered the song years after its release, but when I did, I fell for it immediately. I had it on a compilation cd for years, before I finally bought the 7" single. I don't really own a track unless I've got it on this format...

God only knows - Judie Tzuke

'God only knows' was written by Tony Asher and Brian Wilson and originally performed by the Beach Boys on their famous album 'Pet Sounds'. The song was one of the first pop songs to use the word 'God' in the title. Tony Asher once noted the irony that this, one of the all-time greatest love songs, starts with the line 'I may not always love you'.

The song was covered by many artists, including Andy Williams, Neil Diamond and David Bowie. Judie Tzuke's version was released in 1990, but, like all her other singles with the exception of 'Stay with me 'till dawn', it didn't reach the charts. It is still a great version.

My collection: 7" single no. 2812
Found: Record fair, Rotterdam, February 1, 1997
Cost: 2 guilders
Tracks: 'God only knows' / 'Safe house'
