Bon Anniversaire - Guesch Patti & Encore

'Bon anniversaire' was released as the fourth and final single from Guesch Patti's 1988 album 'Labyrinthe'. The single failed to chart, although the song was a good single choice in my humble opinion.

This 12" single features a remix version of the track, which is 90 seconds longer than the original version.

My collection: 12" single no. 458
Found: Record fair, Utrecht, November 22, 2008
Cost: 2 euro
Tracks: 'Bon anniversaire (version remix)' / 'Bon anniversaire', 'Backstage d'une star'

Etienne - Guesch Patti

Guesch Patti had a number 1 hit in France with her single 'Etienne' (1987). Despite the French language, which can be quite difficult for non-francophones, the song had a strong enough melody to also give her a top 10 hit in Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.

The single was subsequently also released in the UK. This version of the single included an exclusive English-language version of the track. Despite this, the single failed to chart in the UK.

My collection: 7" single no. 5087
Found: Record fair, Utrecht, April 9, 2011
Cost: 1 euro
Tracks: 'Etienne' / 'Un espoir', 'Etienne (English version)'

Bon anniversaire - Guesch Patti

Released as the final single from her 1988 album 'Labyrinthe', 'Bon anniversaire' was another spirited track by Guesch Patti and her band Encore. I got to know the track because my sister had bought the album and I played this track more than a few times. It was only a year after the release when I found out that it had been released as a single.

Of course, it was not a hit in the Netherlands - where French music usually has a hard time breaking through - but it did reach the charts in a few French-speaking countries.

My collection: 7" single no. 1139
Found: All that music, Leiden, December 28, 1989
Cost: 3 guilders
Tracks: 'Bon anniversaire' / 'Backstage d'une star'

Let be must the queen - Guesch Patti

The follow-up to Guesch Patti's single 'Etienne' was 'Let be must the queen'. With its nonsensical title and slightly complicated song structure, it fared less well in the charts than its predecessor. I'm not convinced that this is one of the best tracks of her album 'Labyrinthe' (1988), either. The B-side, on the other hand, should be one of the classic chansons of the past century.

Before I found the album cd, this single was one of my most often played discs - but usually the B-side.

My collection: 7" single no. 1294
Found: Disco Market, Den Haag, 1990
Cost: 1 guilder
Tracks: 'Let be must the queen' / 'Tout seul'

Etienne - Guesch Patti

Guesch Patti was born as Patricia Porasse in Paris, France on March 16, 1946. She decided to begin a singer career and recorded two discs in 1965 that passed unnoticed. In 1984, Patti participated in the trio named 'Dacapo', and had her first solo hit in 1988 with 'Étienne', which was certified gold disc in France. It was a number one hit in France and Italy. In the Netherlands, the single peaked at number 22. It was played often on the radio, but I was not impressed.

It was only later, when I discovered the album 'Labyrinthe' and some great songs on it, that this single became interesting: the B-side is 'Un espoir', one of the standout tracks on the album.

My collection: 7" single no. 2210
Found: Record fair, November 13, 1994
Cost: 2 guilders
Tracks: 'Etienne' / 'Un espoir'
