That's what they say about love - Touch

In 1986 the band Flip had a minor hit with 'That's what they say about love'. They were signed to Arista two years before, and - this I didn't know - released two singles as Touch before they changed their name to Flip.

This single was the second one: the very same recording of 'That's what they say about love' that would become a hit in 1986. This limited edition double pack includes their debut single 'Plague of hearts' as well. The fun thing about this double pack is that aside from 'That's what they say about love', the other tracks are different from the ones that would end up on Flip's debut album.

My collection: 7" single no. 5089
Found: Record fair, April 9, 2011
Cost: 1 euro
Tracks: 'That's what they say about love' / 'Nothing really matters' // 'Plague of hearts' / 'Plague of hearts (the imagination) (instrumental)'

Nightmares - Flip

After the release of 'That's what they say about love', the band Flip tried once more with the remixed single 'Nightmares'. It was even less of a success than the debut single. It must have eventually led to the end of the band in 1987.

The additional single 'Plague of hearts' does exist, but until now I haven't been able to locate a copy. I'm especially looking for the 12" single. Well, here's hoping they will turn up someday...

My collection: 7" single no. 655
Found: V&D, Leiden, September 23, 1988
Cost: 3 guilders
Tracks: 'Nightmares (Big Drum 7")' / 'Dark on the water'

That's what they say about love - Flip

Flip formed in the mid-Eighties. Singer/songwriters Anthony Duke and Frank Walsh recruited Gary Duke, Andy Kinch and Tristian Batory. In 1984 the band were signed to Arista Records, recording an album 'Flip' on 'Private I' records. It was recorded at Abbey Road, Wessex, Sarm and Air Studios and produced by Peter Collins, Colin Thurston and Eric Stewart (10cc). Stewart played on 'Love incognito', he also added a solo on the track 'Demand'.

The single 'That's what they say about love' was released in Spring 1986, and managed to squeeze into the Dutch Top 40, peaking at number 37.

My collection: 7" single no. 417
